Day 15: Engraft Christ's Commands

>> Friday, October 23, 2009

This is the final day of the 15 day scripture memory challenge! God bless you all who were able to participate. I pray the verses you've now engrafted into your heart will be there forever as you strive to live according to God's Word!

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
John 15:7

Day 14: Get Under Christ's Law

>> Thursday, October 22, 2009

Ye also are become dead to law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Romans 7:4

To be honest with you, this verse used to be really confusing to me. What does being dead to the law have to do with getting married? :) I understood that the law is what separates us from Christ, and when we accept the gift of Jesus having died for us, that barrier between us and God becomes nonexistent. The price has been paid. We are no longer separated by the law of God, but rather dead to it. We are now under grace, under a new law of love. But what did Paul mean when he said that now that we're dead to the law, we can "be married to another"? Christians and non-Christians get married whether or not their dead to the law... I was thinking of "another" as meaning one another here on earth-- husband and wife. Especially since he continued by saying, "even to him who is raised from the dead" as though that were in addition to us being married on earth, not as though he was affirming what he just said by saying it more specifically. But then I realized Paul is referring to Jesus Christ and us when he said "be married to another." not men and women on earth! I know, most of you are probably laughing at me for getting a verse like this all confused in my head, especially since you probably didn't think twice about taking it that way, but alas, I'm definitely still learning! :)

Day 13: Don't Offend Disciples

Day 12: Bless Your Offenders

>> Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
I Peter 3:9

A friend of mine used to be very confused with this command. How could we bless our offenders when they're doing things that aren't right? We'd be blessing them in their error! But then she realized that we are to bless our offenders with the qualities they lack. Do you know someone that deals with you impatiently? If you do, you could fulfill I Peter 3:9 by praying something like, "Lord, please bless _____ with patience." As this friend blessed those that hurt her, she not only saw God honor the blessings she requested, she experienced a transformation in her heart as her bitterness turned into love. It became a habit to respond in her heart with blessings, instead of dwelling on the shortcomings of others.

Day 11: Reject Competing Affections

>> Monday, October 19, 2009

Ye adulterers and adulteresses,
know ye not that the friendship of the world
is enmity with God?
whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world
is the enemy of God
.

James 4:4

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matt. 6:24 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8 Love the Lord thy God with ALL thy heart, and with ALL thy soul, and with ALL thy mind, and with ALL thy strength: Mark 12:30

Day 10: Fulfill Purpose in Life

>> Saturday, October 17, 2009

The things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
II Timothy 2:2

Janny Moore, my team leader on Journey to the Heart, is an incredible young lady and an inspiration to me of what it means to love God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. She truly delights in the Lord. Thank you, Janny, for your encouraging example!

I believe the main reason so many youth today are not staying strong in the Lord is because of their failure to obey II Timothy 2:2. Unless we are discipling others, we may not see the purpose and significance of the standards we hold. Those whom we disciple will look to us as examples of what it means to be a Christian and will keep us accountable to the decisions we make as they judge whether or not our personal life is consistent with the principles and commands of Christ we have taught them. We are the "Christ-ones"... the "Christians"; we must bear that name carefully and strive to represent our Father accurately.

Stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Day 4: Meditate Day and Night

>> Monday, October 12, 2009

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Psalm 1:1-3

Day 3: Embrace Disciplines

>> Sunday, October 11, 2009

I keep under my body,
and bring it into subjection;
lest that by any means,
when I have preached to others,
I myself should be a castaway.
I Corinthians 9:27

A price has to be paid for success. Almost invariably those who have reached the summits worked harder and longer, studied and planned more assiduously, practiced more self-denial, overcame more difficulties than those of us who have not risen so far.
B.C. Forbes 1880-1954

>> Saturday, October 10, 2009

Scripture Memory Challenge

>> Thursday, October 8, 2009

Are you ready for another challenge? This one starts tomorrow and will continue for the next 15 days. I have been provided with a list of 15 verses that will, if engrafted into my heart, equip me to defend myself against the devil, who would kill, steal and destroy anything in my life that is pleasing to the Lord. I want you to have these same defenses in your heart! So in an effort to make this blog as useful to you as possible, I will attempt to post one new passage of Scripture every morning for the next 15 mornings. The verses I'll be sharing will be tools to victory in my life, and I know they will be tools to victory in your life as well if you join me in the challenge!

"Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee."
Psalm 119:11

I have a lot of pictures from my time in Northwoods at Journey to the Heart that I want to share with you as well, so I will try to post one each morning with the verse for the day. If you want to join me in this memorizing endeavor, then:

1. Check here every morning
2. Memorize the verse before you start your day
3. Leave a comment to encourage and motivate the rest of us with your progress
4. Meditate on the verse all throughout the day

Meditating on Scripture is absolutely key to success in life;
a guaranteed approach!
(See Joshua 1:8)
